Our mission

Sidmouth in Bloom is a voluntary organisation that works to enhance Sidmouth in three areas: in Horticulture through the greening of the town; in the Environment by encouraging and acknowledging the work of all the volunteer groups in Sidmouth to preserve our greenspaces for the health and mental welbeing of our residents and visitors; and in Community work by encouraging the town to participate to keep Sidmouth clean and beautiful. In an area of outstanding beauty, Sidmouth has a strong floral heritage which attacts many visitors to the town. We are committed to preserving its special heritage and taking forward.SIB encourages voluntary groups to participate in the 'In Your Neighbourhood' Awards' to acknowledge their work in the town.

SIB raises money for the floral displays around the town and to help clean and maintain the environment.

SIB runs two separate voluntary groups apart from having a gardening group:

The Sidcombers who maintain the beach garden and the Sidbashers who help clear Himalayan Balsam from the Sid Valley and River banks.

THE GARDENERS, known as 'The Sidplanters;

Meet every Thursday morning throughout the year. Other working days are aavailable to suit volunteers.

THE SIDCOMBERS;

Beach cleaning commences in March  All ages are welcome.

Meet on the West End of the Promenade near the bus shelters. Refreshments served.

Times are put in the Sidmouth Herald and on notice boards and vary according to tides but are generally for 2 hours from approximately 1 - 3pm or 2 - 4pm. Please check the Sidmouth Herald.

Wear suitable clothing, gloves and bring a large bucket. Litter pickers, bags provided.

Dates for beach cleaning are announced in the Sidmouth Herald's 'What's On' section

THE SIDBASHERS

This group removes Himalayan balsam from the valley in order to allow the native fauna and flora to thrive.  Clearance starts on Tuesday the 28th May from 9.30am- 12.30pm, and then successive Tuesdays until the end of August. The weed is easy to remove. Instuctions will be given.  Wear long sleeves and gumboots.Email info@sidmouthinbloom.org for more details.
